Hair Removal

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is the most comfortable pulsed light technology used as a method for the definitive treatment of excess hair or more precisely unwanted hair as well as for Skin rejuvenation, Acne treatment, Pigmentation and Vascular treatments. IPL is a strong light beam with specific wavelength. The area treated is exposed to the flash light for only a fraction of a second. The energy source comes from the flash lamps. In the process of Hair Removal IPL uses specific light beam to target hair follicles to safely destroy the follicle so that the hair cannot grow back. This method is similar to the method used in laser hair removal but the light used in the IPL process is safer for a wider range of skin types and reportedly less painful than laser.

Currently IPL technology is the most commonly employed method by medical practitioners and aestheticianfor hair removal and phototherapy.

Permanent Hair Reduction

Imagine never having to worry about bumps, shaving, rash, painful waxing or wounds caused by ingrown hairs! Hair reduction with Intense Pulsed Light is a relatively painless and affordable treatment that will gives you permanent results so you can remain hair free all the time.

Pulsed Light systems are similar to lasers, but have a larger beam, are safer to be used across broad range of skin types, giving you quick and comfortable treatment. The pulses of light emitted from the handpiece target the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then safely destroys the hair follicle and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. Since the hair grows at different stages, a series of (6-8) treatments are recommended for permanent results.

Please note that the number of treatments required depends on the hair and skin colour, the area being treated and hormonal influences. Any area of the body can be treated for hair reduction with the exception of directly around the eyes. The time of your treatment is very quick and may take as little as 5 minutes (for Upper lip, Chin or the under arm). Larger areas such as the full leg treatment can be treated in an hour and a half depending on the size of the leg. It is important to keep the area to be treated clean and shaved before each treatment.

You are allowed to shave in between treatments but no waxing as we need the follicle to be in its full stage of growth when treated once every 4 weeks.

How does it feel like?

Most people describe the sensation of a rubber band being snapped on the skin but do not report this as painful. Many people find it more comfortable than waxing.

Should any hot or sunburn like sensation occur it usually disappears within half an hour but for some people this feeling may last a little longer though it can be soothed with ice packs and soothing gels. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimize the risk of complications. Following the treatment, you can generally return to work and resume all regular activities

The treated hair will continue to appear for about 14 days before it gets expelled from the skin. Are you pregnant? Although there is no scientific evidence that Intense pulse light will harm your unborn baby, it is our policy not to treat during your pregnancy. Hair growth during pregnancy is most likely hormonal and it is most likely that your treatment would be unsuccessful. You would be wasting your time and money.

IPL treatments are not suitable for clients with:

Blond or grey hair, polycystic ovaries as the hair will come back, pregnant woman, epilepsy, photosensitive medication (some anti-depressants may be photosensitive or acne medication).
